As the 2012 summer Graphic Design Fellow in the Advertising Department of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, one of my responsibilities was the design of the annual subscriber guides for the upcoming season. While the Washington National Opera and National Symphony Orchestra guides must strictly adhere to the designs of their respective seasons, the Kennedy Center guide—which did not have preexisting guidelines—provided a unique opportunity for me to flex my creative design muscles. Working under Scott Bushnell, the Creative Director of the Advertising Department, the guide explored the concept of a kaleidoscope in presenting the unique performances and events that made up the 2013 season.
